In a country dominated by male winemakers, Susana Balbo stands out not only for her gender, but for her incredible skill and experience. She has been making wine since she earned her enology degree in 1981, and she has probably produced a wider variety of wines than any other winemaker in Argentina. Susana was the first Argentine winemaker to be hired as a consultant to make wine outside of Argentina. She has made wine in Australia, California, Chile, France, Italy, South Africa, and Spain, and she spends a month each year in a different wine region of the world studying with local winemakers and growers.
In 1999, after working more than 20 years as a consultant winemaker, Susana Balbo decided to realize a lifetime’s ambition by building Dominio del Plata in the heart of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, with the aim to demonstrate the vinous diversity inherent in Argentina’s fertile soils.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, Susana Balbo Wines is characterized by its simple and unique architecture, designed for the production of high-end wines. Each grape variety is hand- picked and carefully handled so as to maintain the fruit expression and achieve wines with a singular unique style.
In recent years, Susana and her team have been working tirelessly on meeting the international highest quality standards and have showed their commitment to some of the major issues of the 21st century: food safety, environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
